Nature Journal Workshop Delights
On Tuesday 29th October Ovington Trees organised a nature journal workshop with professional artist Steve Pardue.
A hushed group were enthralled by Steve’s knowledgeable stories about each item he expertly draws. Using a fine liner pen, Steve carefully replicates nature seen during a walk. Afterwards, the images created are masterfully coloured with watercolour wash. Then it was the group’s turn.
We nervously picked up our fine liner pens. “No pencils here! Please take your time and don’t worry about mistakes. We are all learning to control the pen. Take your time” encouraged Steve. A wide range of books, completed journals and foraged items were available for inspiration. “Copying is encouraged and why not start with a simple slug,” enthused Steve.
As the session progressed group members gained confidence and a host of beautiful images were created. After adding explanatory text, the completed journals are folded so that they can open up and tell a story.
Feedback Received
“Hello, I just wanted to say how very much my kids and I all enjoyed the nature journal workshop this morning. Thanks so much for putting it on! The kids are still chatting about it and Hero was drawing things on the walk home and Sol has added to his too. Something so very lovely that’s affordable was just great. Thank you again – and for the delicious cakes and coffee!”
