Helping our Trees see the Light!
On 22nd August contractors with power tools cleared eight feet high balsam, bracken and brambles either side of the newly planted hedge down at the River Tyne.
This year the long wet spring and summer have encouraged rapid overgrowth around our planted trees. This is in spite of local council strimming along the area. The transplants were suffering from lack of sunlight, so we hope this urgent action helps them to establish before autumn dormancy. Elsewhere along the linear arboretum route more trees need attention. Tyne Rivers Trust volunteers are helping on Wednesday 18th September to clear vegetation from around trees. Further maintenance dates to be announced — please keep an eye on the events page of our website.
